What if?

What if Jesus were to call you?
What if he were to call you to leave your home, sell it, and move into a smaller house?
What if that smaller house was actually a hut, or a piece of cardboard in a slum?
What if he were to call you to eat only once, or twice a day?
What if the food you had to eat made your stomach churn?
What if he were to call you to leave your friends?
What if he were to call you to leave your grocery stores, McDonalds and Starbucks?
What if he were to call you to leave your blankets, and comfortable clothing?
What if he were to call you to leave everything familiar to you?
What if he were to call you to leave your church?
What if he were to call you to give your money to the poor?
What if he were to call you to live with the ‘least of these?’
What if he were to call you to go and visit people in jail?
What if he were to call you to talk to that homeless person sitting on the corner of the street?
What if he were to call you to go talk to the group of drunks and misfits that sit outside the school cafeteria?
What if……..What if…..What if…….What if he called you to take up the crosses of the ‘what ifs’, throw yourself into Him, and LET HIM work out the ‘what ifs’ He wants a willing heart, but he’ll take your heart, either way, how willing are you going to be?

“Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” “Which ones?” the man inquired.  Jesus replied, ” ‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.”All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.”
Matthew 19:16-22

You say, well, that wasn’t written for me. I’m not rich! Rich in whose eyes? If you make more then $2 a day, you’re rich.

“Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23

What is your cross?

Everyone DOES talk about becoming a missionary, so many of us shrug it off saying “I’m not called.” But what if we ARE? What if YOU are?

He gave His life? What are YOU willing to give?
