What did God do through Passion?

11, 117 socks were sent to the local DC shelters

(All the socks collected by Saturday afternoon)

$42, 201 was given to build 14 wells to provide water FOR A LIFETIME to families in Africa.

(These are the tubes representing each Passion conference. Once you raised enough money to build one well, the water would turn blue in your tube)

$32,217 was raised for DC’s world tour mission, Passion: Kampala Uganda.

(3.000 attendees at DC, 74, 418 dollars raised for missions PLUS the money for towels and socks,  and all this from mostly COLLEGE kids)

(3,ooo college students, and some adults who snuck in worshipping AS ONE…United, by the blood, and resurrection of Jesus Christ)

(Smiley workers like this man, pictured with my friend, who sacrificed time, and money to come to Northern Virginia in order to put this on for us.)

(Messages on the fame of God through hardships, and making every moment count from Mr. Giglio.)

100_0952.jpg

(The funniest moment of all was when Mr. Giglio burped…into the mike, by TOTAL accident, taking him by total  surprise, and then proceeded to stand in stunned silence for a few seconds before saying “excuse me” and saying how humbled he was. )

(The funny man, Mr. Francis Chan who gave a sermon that I will NEVER forget, not just for the part where he imitated a Caterpillar turning into a butterfly, but mostly for his heart wrenching sermon on the Holy Spirit of God.)

(Worship was lead though-out the weekend by the amazing Chris Tomlin……)

(My accented English friend, Matt Redman)

(The man whom God has given the incredible gift of ministry through Music-Charlie Hall)

…………and the amazing Christy Nockels whom I do not have a picture of, but whose voice pretty much makes me want to cry.

All this held at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, this picture was taken as everyone was coming back in from break, and you can’t even grasp how many people were there.

If I can find a way to post some of my footage from the intro, I would. It gives me chills, even now watching it. For now though, I leave you with the lyrics of a song that Chris Tomlin sang for us. It was written at a brothel, a place of sin, and suffering. We sang it over Washington DC to remind us that greater things are yet to come.

You’re the God of this city
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You Are

Bridge:
For there is no one like our God
There is no one like our God

Chorus 1:
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here

Verse 2:
You’re the Lord of Creation
The Creator of all things
You’re the King above all Kings
You Are

You’re the strength in our weakness
You’re the love to the broken
You’re the joy in the sadness
You Are

Chorus 2:
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Where glory shines from hearts alive
With praise for you and love for you
In this city

Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here

OUR FATHER IS:

AND even though Passion 2008 DC is over, the work of God and his people is far from done. The battles are beginning, but the LORD has won the war.

Thanks for the comment over at my blog and the pictures you posted. Such fun! Francis Chan’s butterfly thing was one of the big favorites in our group, too. We kept walking around, flapping our arms up and down slowly and saying, “Shut up!”

    and Christy Nockels … amazing!

Tam, Oh how I love “God of this City.” Do you know the story behind that song? it’s quite profound.

Tammie, Thanks for responding to my comment! Oh I know. Between Francis and the butterfly and Louie Giglio’s burp….I keep myself laughing as I remember. How did ya’ll find out about Passion?

Meredith, thanks for leaving a comment! Isn’t it so cool how united we can be as fellow “fruitcakes”. I love that about God. Let’s not forget all that he taught us during that time. :) Come back anytime.

Just finally thought to check back on comment threads I posted on. How did I find out about Passion? Actually, it was at a youth workers convention in 2002. Louie spoke — it was the “I Am Not But I Know I AM” talk — and changed my perception of just about everything. They also did “The Passion Experience” (the tour they had done back in 01 and 02) and previewed OneDay 03. I knew I had to be a part of all of it in some way or another. I more or less kept track of things through their web site and volunteered in Nashville and Atlanta before getting to take students to DC.

Now, I’m all excited about volunteering in Atlanta!

    Brother,
God works in weird ways… I am a believer living in PA. I am teaching tomorrow during our worship gathering. The Lord has been speaking to me about Psalm 107. Earlier today, while driving home, thinking of Psalm 107 (the main verses we’ll discuss tomorrow), I was listening to “Garments of Praise” by Robin Mark. I’ve always loved that song. It struck me that Garments of Praise have a lot of commonality with Psalm 107, so I googled it. I came across your web site in the process. From there, I saw this song that I’ve never heard (God of this City). I found it on last.fm and listened to it. Wow. It’s so tightly tied in to some things that God has been showing me in Is. 58-61 – which happen to also closely related to Psalm 107. Anyway, after listening to that song, Last.fm proceeded to play songs like bluetree, the original writers of that song. In doing so, they played “We are hungry” by Steve Fee, another songs I don’t recall hearing. That song too has so much to do with Psalm 107. So I’ve spent the last two hours just encouraged in Jesus and being built up in him.

Where am I going with this….?

Sometimes, we can view blog posts as just simple brain dumps. In this case, God sovereignly arranged a lot of the details and loose thoughts in my day, your blog name, your posts, songs, etc to work in mighty ways in my heart and mind. Who knows what he’ll do with the info next? Just wanted to share that with you to encourage you with the total coolness of God working! I am so glad you named your blog “Garments of Praise”!

    Peace

Wow, Andrew. Thank you SO MUCH for your encouragement. I’ve been discouraged lately, and wondered if I should stop blogging, then I read your comment, and I was totally blown away. God is so crazy awesome how he works these things together. I am SO GLAD that you “stumbled” on my site and that God was able to show you things through it.
    Stop by anytime, new friend.
